Sun Valley
Sun Valley is the home to the world famous Sun Valley Lodge and neighboring destinations such as the Sun Valley Golf Course, Trail Creek Cabin, the Ice Rink, Symphony Pavillion and Dollar Mountain (the smaller of the two ski resorts in the area). Sun Valley is home to Proctor Mountain where the world’s first chairlift was built in 1936. Sun Valley was originally made famous by Averill Harriman and many other celebrities including Gary Cooper and Earnest Hemmingway the later of whom came to hunt, fish and write in the hills surrounding the resort. The Resort area is located just a mile from Ketchum and given the close proximity the two areas are somewhat interchangeable with more locals typically found in Ketchum and more visitors at the SV Resort. Sun Valley includes the neighboring Elkhorn area which has its own golf, tennis and pool facilities as well as a number of condos, townhomes and beautiful freestanding homes. Any visit to the Sun Valley area is not complete without roaming the halls of the SV Lodge and looking at the many photos of famous guests over the years.
